Hoopes’ formal training in Fine Arts includes an Associate of Fine Arts degree from Parkland Junior College (1974-1976), a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of IIlinois (1976-1979), and graduate studies in Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin (1979-1980) and Illinois State University (1980-1981). Since that time, Hoopes has worked as a professional artist in Canada.

Over the past 20 years, Hoopes has participated in numerous national and international juried and solo exhibitions, with paintings displayed in both public and commercial galleries and used as illustrations in various publications. Much of his work portrays the delicate balance that exists between humanity and the environment, reflecting the earth’s precarious ecological and political situation. Some paintings depict the peaceful co-existence that can occur between humans and nature; others emphasize the consequences of failure to recognize our contributions to environmental and social imbalance.
